No-one has bothered to talk about Obsidian’s style. So, I’ll give it a guess here.
Based in part of the EM Katz thread, and other patterns I’ve seen, I’m going to venture that Obs is a Soresu. Patient, looking for attacks to deflect, trying to wear down opponents. Even offensively at the end, he does so standing as a shield for others, rather than going right after a person who frankly chose personal financial interests over telling the whole truth. If your Game matches your blog persona, you’re a Soresu.
Engagements and posts are too long to be Makashi, and we’ve seen that you aren’t Djem-So. Too linear to be Vaapad. Seems to separate himself from the Niman style, which tracks with observation, but can be still enough to observe and appreciate it.
I’ll add, and I can’t quite remember where, that I’ve seen an unsuccessful engagement or 2 elsewhere by our host, and the problem seemed to be that the other side didn’t engage strongly. Without which, the Soresu style kind of has nowhere to go.
Guess we’ll know soon enough. Have to say, I really enjoyed the post and the chosen structure.
