# Uttarkashi District Uttarkashi — 'Northern Varanasi' — is one of Uttarakhand's most spiritually charged and geographically spectacular districts. The district is home to Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines, the Bhagirathi river, the Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM) in Uttarkashi town, Harsil valley with its legendary Wilson Apple and ancient deodar trees, the magnificent Dayara Bugyal, the sacred Dodital lake, and the beautiful Har Ki Dun valley.
