Most people fail to notice that gender roles aren’t only affecting women, but men as well. They drive women and men to act as they do, generally without awareness, and this is the real issue. The hook-up culture is just another way that these roles are manifested. Whether good or bad depends on the person, though it’s clear that there are positive and negative consequences for the society as a whole.
I think the bigger issue isn’t what happens in the hookup culture (most people are very aware of what happens and what the potential consequences are), but instead what this means for how both men and women are viewed. Or, I suppose, what men and women learn from hooking up and how they apply that to their lives.
Also, Mark actually insults both men and women throughout his article, limiting them: “most women with a pulse can generate some male desire.” Wtf mate!

I agree with you completely. That one quote you mention is pretty ridiculous.

Tabitha stresses that we should not overgeneralize and assume all women feel one way. Though I definitely agree, I don’t believe this means our discussion ends by merely saying “everyone is different, so shut up”. Is it possible that significantly more people would prefer that relationships progressed how they used to? It may be.
